This causes Kaito to get into a big fight with Maki, and they start drifting apart. With the Necronomicon idea having failed, Kaito resorts to acting like Kokichi, starting in Chapter 5.
The majority of the students vote to bring Kokichi back, but Kiyotaka Ishimaru forcibly takes control in an attempt to bring back his bro Mondo Owada, so Kokichi was never brought back after all. But Maki won't tolerate seeing Kaito be teased by Kokichi again, so she warns him that she'll kill Kokichi again the first chance she gets. Kaito explains that he missed being teased by Kokichi and he felt Maki took him away too soon. In Chapter 4, after the Necronomicon motive was revealed, Kaito votes to bring back Kokichi much to the ire of Maki.
KOKICHI OMA TRIAL
Maki survives the trial due to the double blackened rule stating that Nekomaru Nidai's murder was the one that mattered. But Maki felt that Kaito should've never gotten involved in Kokichi's alternate fates death, so she kills Kokichi to correct a wrong the alternate fates pointed out. Kokichi's alternate fates motive revealed that Kaito would've killed him in the alternate timeline. But in Chapter 3, Kokichi was killed by Maki Harukawa, which causes an abrupt end to his interactions with Kaito. Like in canon, Kokichi loved teasing Kaito while the former was still alive. Moments after Kokichi is proud to lead Team Killing Harmony, Kaito proceeds to trip, fall, and break his neck. Kaito tries to cheer Kokichi up during a shell-shock phase, but it's not really working. Kokichi is seen conspiring against Kaito with Rantaro Amami. Kokichi teamed up with Maki Harukawa to murder Kaito in an act of betrayal. Kaito had to kill Gossifleur to protect Kokichi's life.
